Squadra di Vecchi Tori

About Us

We are a group of ordinary bike riders who live in or around the suburb of Malvern, Melbourne, Australia and ride under the name ‘Squadra di Vecchi Tori’ (Team of Old Bulls). Why the name? Because Molteni and Gewiss were already taken and a few of our riders are involved in the beef industry. The rest of us like being associated with signs of virility.

In March 2010, 16 of us each successfully rode 527ks in 24hrs at the annual Murray to Moyne cycling event held in Victoria.  We raised over $60,000 for 2 charities close to the hearts of 2 of our riders – Learning for Life and The Unicorn Foundation.  Information on the ride can be found on our twitter page at www.twitter.com/m2m500.

This blog is dedicated to them, and will document some of their rides, contain tips, commentary, banter and a distraction for all.

Come back often

Great stuff Stu and Team.
I think I’m an FRHM – or will be again after post-honeymoon lethargy wears off. Hilarious writings.

Hi my name Is Norm gray..
Ive noticed that your club do,or have done some cyclo cross races,
I rode the British national cyclo cross championships in the late
1970s. Since coming to Australia I rode on the road for a while before
retiring from cycling for 25 years,,,have retuned to riding since 2006
on the road, have recently taken up MTB as well..
But as you can imagine,my real passion is cyclo cross. I have built up
a cross bike recently with plans to sneak it into some of the less
technical MTB races,
I was most disappointed when this http://www.cyclocrossaustralia.com/
did not eventuate.
so anyway I am looking for cyclo cross rides/races anywhere in Eastern
Australia,
I am located near Mt beauty and mainly race on the road At wangaratta
and do some of the less technical mountain bike races here.
I actually rode a MTB event last week in Bright which had plenty of
mud,and would have made a perfect Cross course..

I also have a desire to promote cyclo cross in this country and believe
that there is an interest for it here and that if Liam Kileen [Uk Mtb
Comonwealth champ] can regularly come in the first 3 in the British
cyclo cross championships.when he is riding it when he is out of his
season for being fit,.then some of our top Mtb riders are capable of
[with a little adaptation]to represent aus at the cross worlds,,
but anyway sorry to ramble,
please pass this email on to the appropriate persons.

Norm, thanks very much. I’ll certainly pass on your comment to the organisers of the races being held here in Melbourne.

There certainly appears to be a high degree of interest in cross racing generally – have a look at fixed.org.au under “Dirty Deeds CX” for a start.

The Melbourne based cross races have just started up – have a look at the Dirty Deeds blog which has details in our links section. An initial race was held last November and the Dirty Deeds series is sponsored by the Brunswick Cycling Club here in Melbourne. The next race is on Sunday 25 July in Darebin, Melbourne – all you need is a race licence which can be purchased on the day. We would love to see you there.
Stuart
